Tire pressure plays an important safety aspect for your vehicle that is often overlooked. Just because your tire pressure does not look low does not mean your shouldn't check it.
Under or over inflated tires could result in damage such as:
- Abnormal wear (abnormal tread wear).
- Damage to sidewall.
- Radial Splits (when sidewall cracks and splits open).
- Separation (detachment of treads from sidewall).
These are just some of the problems you could run into by not monitoring your tires pressure. To check your vehicles tire pressure you can look for the plate on the inside portion of your door (where it closes) or you can check your owner's manual.
You will find a "Max cold load" on the sidewall of your tires, however this is NOT the suggested PSI (Pounds per Square Inch), it is just what the tire manufacturer suggests as maximum tire pressure for the tire itself.
Keeping up with your tire pressure can be beneficial when it comes to saving gas mileage, and with today's gas prices anything helps. An air hose and tire gauge can be found at most gas stations. There should be tokens inside or you can pay with quarters to use these machines.
